Description
Saint Patrick, Ireland’s primary patron saint, left behind a unique personal record, his Confession, which sheds a light on his great spirituality and unwavering faith. Patrick in His Own Words comprises the text of that fascinating personal narrative alongside the only other document known to have been written by Patrick: a scathing letter addressed to the soldiers of Coroticus, in which he admonishes the British tyrant and his army for their attacks on the island of Ireland.
Patrick in His Own Words also contains an enlightening commentary from Bishop Joseph Duffy which invites the reader to share in Patrick’s great wisdom and be inspired by the example of this remarkable saint who faced the mystery of life and death with exemplary courage and refreshing honesty.
About the Editor
Joseph Duffy served as Bishop of Clogher from 1979 until his retirement in 2010. His interest in St Patrick’s writings began when, prior to becoming bishop, he was chaplain to the pilgrims at St Patrick’s Purgatory, Lough Derg for ten years.
CELEBRATING FIFTY YEARS OF VERITAS PUBLICATIONS
Veritas Publications has its origins in the Catholic Truth Society of Ireland, which was founded in 1899 to publish and make available a range of religious materials that would appeal to the spiritual and pastoral needs of Irish people of the day.
2019 is a very special year for Veritas as it marks fifty years since the Catholic Truth Society and the Catholic Communications Centre merged, leading to the creation of Veritas Publications. It is under this umbrella that Veritas has been operating ever since, remaining – to this day – Ireland’s leading publisher of titles related to Catholicism, spirituality, mental health and social justice in Ireland.
To mark this momentous occasion, Veritas is delighted to present this exclusive commemorative edition of Patrick in His Own Words by Bishop Joseph Duffy, which was one of the first titles from Veritas Publications.
