Every month, we suggest a Faith Practice which you and your home, school or parish community might like to take on as part of your commitment for the Year of Faith. It is our hope that these simple practices will stir in us the ‘renewed conversion of the Lord’ that Pope Benedict XVI calls for in Porta Fidei (n. 6).
Faith Practice of the Month for November: Supporting the work of Trócaire
This year, Trócaire celebrates forty years of ground-breaking work with the poorest and most vulnerable people in the developing world. Trócaire works in partnership with communities to support their efforts to improve their lives, meet their basic needs and to ensure their human dignity. It tackles the root causes of poverty, addressing issues such as of food security, human rights, gender equality and HIV. Trócaire works with local partner organisations that understand the challenges faced by communities in the hardest hit regions of the world.
Over the past forty years, the generosity of the Irish people has had a positive impact on the lives of thousands. You can continue to support the work of Trócaire by:
- Becoming a volunteer: Trócaire has vibrant volunteer groups in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Belfast and in the north-west of Ireland. As a volunteer you can get involved in a range of activities, including campaigning and advocacy, fundraising, online media, event organising, festivals and community outreach. Whether you have one hour a month or one day a week to spare, Trócaire will appreciate and value the time you can give. For more information on becoming a volunteer, click here.
- Buy a Trócaire Gift: Each Trócaire Gift is sourced locally and sustainably from the country where it is needed, so the gifts not only support families in the world’s poorest places, they grow the local economy too. When you buy a Trócaire Gift, 100 per cent of your money goes to the developing world – buying gifts as well as funding critical work in programmes, such as human rights and livelihoods. - Donate: Organise a fundraiser, make a one-time or regular donation, or remember people in the developing world in your will. Click here to learn more.
