On Tuesday 17th May 2011, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip began a historic State Visit to Ireland, the first by a reigning British monarch to the Republic.
Four days of exceptional events followed - from military ceremonies at Dublins Garden of Remembrance and Islandbridge to the Rock of Cashel, from Aras an Uachtarain to Corks English Market, from the State Banquet at Dublin Castle to Croke Park, and from Government Buildings to a concert for the Queen at Dublins Convention Centre. The following Monday, US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama arrived at Dublin Airport for a whirlwind series of engagements.
These included a memorable visit to the Presidents ancestral home of Moneygall, Co. Offaly and a public address to tens of thousands of people gathered at College Green in Dublin.
RTEs cameras followed the Queen and the President during a remarkable and unique week in Ireland, and RTP-s pictures were broadcast around the world. This DVD contains over four hours of edited highlights from Irelands Week of Welcomes.
