  • This title presents another RTAe collaboration with a selection of writing from the "Quiet Quarter" slot on Lyric FMs "Lyric Notes". Following the sell out of the first edition of the "Quiet Quarter", there are high hopes that this will attract wide attention from the listeners on Lyric FM. Contributors include John MacKenna, Ken Bruen, Gabriel Rosenstock, Carlo Gebler, Dick Warner, Geralde Dawe, Louis de Paor, Dermot Bolger and John F. Deane.

The idea of the Quiet Quarter was one that caught on immediately and has been one of the great success stories of RTEs Lyric fm radio, whose mainstay is classical music. It is a simple concept of taking some time out in the middle of the morning to listen to the musings of some creative person on a topic of their choice, often their reactions to some event, rather than a recounting of the event itself. The programme brings together established names with others less well known to give an eclectic mix of short talks whether on personal life, nature, travel, or of course music among many other topics. Nic Gearailt has been a stalwart of Lyric fm from the very beginning and introduced the Quiet Quarter as part of her own programme, Lyric notes. Among the recognisable contributors are Dermot Bolger, Carlo Gebler, Manchan Magan, Celia de Freine, Dick Warner and about 140 more. Whether its all great writing may be doubted, but the chances are theres a lot of great writing in there somewhere.
