Murray Watts' childhood love of literature and the Bible has been an enduring influence on his life. He studied English literature, art history and theology, and began his career as a playwright while still a student. He was a founding director of Riding Lights Theatre Company and has written scripts for theatre, TV radio and film. He is the author of a number of books, including the novel The Miracle Maker. He also wrote the screenplay for the acclaimed animated feature film of `The Miracle Maker', and the research for this film influenced much of the writing of The Lion Bible for Children.
He lives in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland
