  • Songs of the Heart is a new edition of the best-selling 25 Windows into the Soul.

In her introduction, Sister Joan Chittister writes: "The psalmist is poet and wisdom figure, balladeer and historian of the human struggle for God." What an apt description of Sister Joan herself! In this new book, she breaks open the psalms for us, those ancient songs that have been prayed by ordinary people for centuries. As usual, Sister Joan's language is fresh yet steeped in tradition, piercing yet tenderly nuanced. The topics she has chosen are universal, contemporary, timeless. Her "soul points" and "wisdom stories" are unforgettable. Her suggested activities run the gamut of profoundly daring to just plain fun.

This book, like the psalms themselves, is meant not merely to be read, but to be entered into. It belongs to all of us who call ourselves "human souls in progress."
