We all like to listen to stories, but we can becorne tired if we hear the same one over and over again. Although we may listen, we no longer really hear. The same thing can happen to the Gospel story,
which can come across as old, stale and lifeless.
The Gospel is the greatest story ever told, but it needs to be told in a way that appeals and gets through. Flor McCarthy brings the Gospel to life, using simple, everyday language, and providing background information for the reader. He draws us into the story so that our own stories merge with the Gospel and are illuminated by it.
Let the Light Shine will appeal to adults and young people who are looking for a clear and lively account of the Gospel story.
Flor McCarthy is a Salesian priest whose first ministry was as a catechist and who now serves as a preacher, teacher, writer and teller of stories, in Dublin. Among the books he has written are The Berrypicker, Let the Light Shine: The Gospel Story for Young People, Sunday & Holy Day Liturgies, Funeral Liturgies and Wedding Liturgies.
