  • What happens when we lose control of our destiny and fate, in the guise of ill health, intervenes? It is As it Is tells the touching true story of two women whose friendship is tested to its limit by serious illness.

Malina Stahre-Godycka’s account of her relationship with the remarkable Prudentia, who finds herself confronting cancer, is comprised of a series of frank and heartfelt diary entries that are brave, insightful and thought-provoking. It is As it Is provides a candid, unexpectedly wry exploration of faith, friendship and mortality, which will inspire all who read it, particularly those who care for loved ones living with serious illness or medical professionals who specialise in palliative care.

This is a fully human, alive, spiritual story of deep faith, hope and love, challenged at times but always winning out. This small book can be enjoyed by anyone but will, I believe, resonate particularly with – and be of great personal comfort, solace and encouragement to – readers who may experience serious illness in their own life or in that of family or friends.

     - Sr Stanislaus Kennedy

The gift of friendship includes both blessings and challenges. This gripping account of the experience of walking with another person in friendship encourages the reader to explore human and divine love and other-ness in a fresh and genuinely transformative way.

     - Werner G. Jeanrond, Master of St Benet’s Hall, University of Oxford
