Chapter 26. The Second Commandment: Reverence God’s Name
‘You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in Vain’ (CCC, nos 2142–2167)
God has first loved the world; the first of the Ten Commandments speaks of our response to God’s love. To believe in the One Triune God with our whole heart, mind, body and soul is our human response to God’s unconditional love. The First Commandment invites us to believe in the true God, to hope in him and to love him fully with our hearts, minds and wills. This commandment moves us to praise, worship and adoration of God alone, because God alone is holy and worthy of our praise.
