In 2016 we will celebrate the great jubilee of the 150th anniversary of the miraculous Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Succour being enshrined in the Redemptorist church of St Alphonsus in Rome in 1866. This icon is now one of the most popular images of Our Lady and the novenas inspired by her are loved all over the world. Fr McManus explains the history of the icon and how it came to be placed under the guardianship of the Redemptorists in Rome. He also explains how to read the icon and the many details with important meanings within it. The book also looks at the extremely popular Perpetual Novena inspired by the icon. There is also a special jubilee prayer.
Jim McManus is a Redemptorist, based at St Mary's, Clapham Common, London, from where he is engaged in preaching parish missions. He also directs retreats for priests and religious in different countries. Through his books he has been promoting, over the past thirty years, a deeper awareness of the urgent pastoral need for an effective healing ministry, which is especially relevant in the Church today as we face the challenges of the New Evangelisation.
I very much welcome this excellent publication...My prayer is that it will inspire many more people to discover the power of devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and so like me, and millions of others, be touched by the infinite love and mercy of her son.
