  • First carved by Christian monks for ecclesiastical boundaries circa 600 A.D., the Celtic Cross became a widely recognised visual aid in the propagation of Christianity. With the added circle and the horizontal and vertical bars, the Cross became even more popular by 1200 A.D. when Ireland became known as the Island of Saints and Scholars, a place for learning and knowledge for all of Europe. The Celtic Cross is symbolic in design but retains its basic Celtic art.
