Born in Dublin in 1952, Ciarán Ó Coigligh has lectured in the Modern Irish departments of NUI Galway and NUI Dublin, and has also worked in the Department of Irish Folklore, NUI Dublin.
He is a professor of Irish language, literature and civilisation in Saint Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. Among his areas of expertise are personal names, place names, dialects and the literature of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
He is a poet with nine published collections, the most recent of which being Dánta Eoin Pól II. He was the sole Irish representative at the Meeting with Artists which Pope Benedict XVI held on 21 November 2009 in Rome.
