Brian Lacey

Brian Lacey obtained his doctorate for inter-disciplinary work on the heritage of St Colum Cille in 1999 from the University of Ulster where he lectured from 1974 to 1986. He was director of the Archaeological Survey of County Donegal between 1979 and 1983.

 

From 1986 until 1998 he was head of Derry City Council s Heritage and Museum Service, and from 1998 to 2012 he was CEO of the Discovery Programme in Dublin, an institute for advanced research in Irish archaeology. He has written extensively, particularly on the history and archaeology of the northwest of Ireland, and in 2013 presented a major BBC commissioned Irish language documentary Turas go Oileán Í on the life and legacy of Saint Colum Cille.
